FAQ

What is Bohemicus?

Bohemicus is a translator’s tool. It integrates with your CAT tool (or any other application) and enhances its capabilities. It works like an interface. With Bohemicus, you can use machine translation, voice dictation, your own translation memories, search in online/offline dictionaries and much more… in a CAT tool that does not actually provide such functionality by itself. And thus, you can improve your productivity and translation speed.

What languages does Bohemicus support?

ALL languages are supported. If you wish to use the machine translation and voice dictation features, then you can only do so in languages supported by Google.

Can I use my Mac/iPhone/iPad with Bohemicus?

Only Windows/Android devices are currently supported.

How can I use the voice dictation with Bohemicus?

Install the Bohemicus application from the Google Play portal into your Android device. Run it. Run Bohemicus in your Windows 7/8/10 as well. They should connect to each other automatically. Then, press the tilde (~) key on your PC keyboard. This activates Bohemicus in your Android device. Start dictating. Once you are done dictating, press the tilde key again. Bohemicus will insert the converted speech into your CAT tool.

How can I use the machine translation feature?

Set up your language combination on the Bohemicus “Language & Settings” tab. Then, open your segment in your CAT tool and press Ctrl+Space. This will machine translate your segment in all major CAT tools (SDL Trados, memoQ, DejaVu, Wordfast, Across…). Some tools are not supported (mainly the online tools, like XTM, Coach). In such a case, copy the source to target, select all target text and press Ctrl+Alt+Space. This will machine translate the selected text, i.e. all text in your segment. The usual sequence would be Ctrl/Alt + Ins (copy source to target), Ctrl+A (select all text), Ctrl+Alt+Space (machine translate the selected text) – but some CAT tools might have different shortcuts, so you need to find this out for your particular tool.

What about privacy and data protection?

If you use the machine translation and voice dictation features, Bohemicus sends your data to Google servers for further translation or conversion. As per Google’s statement, they do not share such data with any 3rd parties, see here: https://cloud.google.com/translate/data-usage
Apart from that, Bohemicus does not share any other data with any other 3rd parties.

Can I try Bohemicus for free?

Yes, upon download, you can try the full version of Bohemicus for 14 days for free.

Can I trust your site and download the software?

Yes, Bohemicus is code-signed by a Comodo/Sentigo code signing certificate (publisher: Mgr. Jan Kapoun). It is completely virus-free, it only does what it is supposed to do.

Why do I get the Windows 10 SmartScreen warning when running the installer?

That’s because I am an independent software developer and my code-signing certificate has not reached the requested trust level yet. As soon as a sufficient number of users install and run this software, the SmartScreen warning will go away. If you have any doubts, please run any anti-virus software on the Bohemicus intaller file before you run it.
